“Duckmoors” is a small family kennel, established in 2008, with a big love for the Golden retrievers. We are based in Western Slovakia on the borders with Austria and Czechia. We have litters only occasionally when we want to hold a puppy to continue the line. Being a family kennel, our dogs are and will be a part of our family and our puppies will be born in our house and live together with the rest of the family. Our dogs' health is very important for us and therefore we have them examined before we choose to breed. No dog is perfect, but we think as a breeder is important to know the weaknesses of a bitch and try to compensate them when finding the right stud dog. According the rules of Slovak retriever club, dogs must be examined for HD, ED before they are used in breeding, but we also examine our dogs for heart illnesses, thyroid problems, OCD and do yearly eyes checks and all genetic tests available for goldens.
About me - us
It would be easy to write a few words about me, but I’ve decided to write about all my dogs from one reason - show all how important is taking care about health in golden retrievers..
… dogs are a part of my life since I can walk, I have grown up always accompanied with german shepherds, but in 2004 joined us first golden retriever Ria and I have discovered the great qualities of this breed. As first we did together rescue work, obedience and canistherapy, but later we discovered the fun and pleasure of retrieving, dummy work and hunting. Ria’s puppyhood was very hard as she suffered with many health problems and she suffers whole her life with hypothyreodism. |

Therefore I decided to take the 2nd golden retriever. I took a golden puppy - Mona zo Sadenca - from a hunter for work, but still from show line, as at that moment we had no working golden retrievers in Slovakia. She was very fast, biddable bitch, always keen to work with very open and honest character. Unfortunately, I lost her only when she was 2,5 years old with terrible Addison’s disease.
It took only any months when I decided to make my dream real - a golden retriever from working line. It was also a time when I decided for breeding and established my kennel.
So, in September 2008 I picked up my 1st working GR from US at the Vienna airport - Blazinlake’s Flying Star “Fly”. I fell in love with the small ball of energy, speed and unexhaustibility. I got to my hands very fast, clever bitch with excellent hunting abilities. We have spent 2 perfect years together on the different trainings in Hungary, Czechia, Denmark, Germany and Austria, found many friends and discovered together fun and pleasure of retriever work. She learnt me many things and regularly showed me all my weaknesses.
But the fate has hit our life again and Fly had in her 2 years serious accident on the training after which she was paralyzed on hind legs. She underwent difficult spinal surgery and took another 1 year until she was better. She is not able to work as a gundog anymore, but I’m very grateful for the fact that she can walk at least.

After Fly’s problems I lost the hope of having a healthy golden retriever and the same year joined us a fox red working labrador puppy from kennel Aguzannis - Chilli. She was very easy to train, sometimes the training with her was even too boring as she barely made one fault in the training. From her 12 months she competed on the working tests successfully and joined our picking up days. Sadly, I had to retire Chilli early from a working career as she suffered from autoimmune disease and later badly from arthritis.

In 2010, I got a chance to take a working golden puppy from US lines again with no previous plan. And HE flew into our life - Lightning Fast American Crossfire - MY ONCE IN A LIFETIME DOG. Expectations were big, but unfortunately I lost him in his 4,5 years with cancer - lymphoma. Still difficult to write about him for me..
He was a dream - golden retriever with superb character, working abilities and will to please.. will never forget him.

In 2016, I have decided to go away from US lines and took a puppy from United Kingdom - the home of golden retrievers. Our house joined a fluffy big puppy - Lou :). After few weeks I was hitten by the fate again. Lou was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia in a puppy age and underwent two serious surgeries for painfree life. Now she is living in our house with her “new hips” and enjoying her life in every way. Many people asked me if I’m not looking for a new home for her, where she can live on the couch only. But why? She is a special dog for me with very nice character and a big soul. She has her place here in our pack and I’m sure she is able to join my picking up team one day.

During Lou’s recovery I traveled to UK again, for a dreamed puppy from Kaliture kennel - Kaliture Toffee Crisp. My dream, my big hope .. and it worked! I got perfect, healthy girl with natural hunting abilities, very honest, with nice character and huge amount of will to please. In her 16 months she entered her first competition successfully and fulfilled all conditions (health, shows and work) for her breeding license and became our first brood bitch. I’m looking forward to work with her and hope she will bring some nice puppies to our kennel.

In 2017, I got big chance to take Toffee’s half-brother from Kaliture kennel and I have to say I couldn’t decide better. Kaliture Finn joined us in April 2017 and the same year we spent together very nice days on many picking ups.
He is a dog with big heart, he came here and fits in our pack as he would be here from puppy age.
My big thanks belong to Lucy Mixture for the chance to have two brilliant Kaliture dogs in our kennel.

After more than 15 years with golden retrievers, collecting many information about them, with many personal experiences - better or worse, I hope I can also help to our breed.
During this years I've met many breeders and friends who shared with me many experiences and knowledge. I read many books about golden retrievers, studying yearbooks, pedigrees and lines, spending hours and hours by searching on the internet, and was always amazed, surprised and sad how many health problems or character problems we have in our breed.
Having had dogs with different diseases, I’m fully testing all my dogs to try and ensure that I do all I can, not to breed dogs that potentially could have problems in their lives. As all my dogs are living inside our house together with small kid and cats, good characters are very important for me.

My philosophy is that all our dogs are family pets as well as gundogs, so they MUST HAVE nice and open character
as well as natural hunting abilities.
